To share current challenges and successes and to collaborate together in advancing the clinical care, research and training in child and adolescent inpatient psychiatry in Ontario.
In 2004, The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) adopted the Total Clinical Outcomes Management (TCOM) approach within its Inpatient Psychiatry Program. Central to the TCOM approach is the need to fully embed outcomes measurement into all aspects of clinical care. Part of this mandate calls for a shared vision at a provincial level in order to better meet the needs of all children and families. Hence, a directory of inpatient services was drafted and funding for an inaugural meeting was received in 2006 from the Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health. At that time, all known inpatient programs in existence or in development were represented, as were the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the Ministry of Child and Youth Services.
